The burden of hypertension in rural communities in Ghana is problem of concern. Until 1990, Hypertension and diabetes were not easily noticeable in rural settings in Ghana. The trends have changed. Hypertension and diabetes equally impact both urban and rural populations in Ghana. This burden is further exacerbated by myths and superstitions surrounding hypertension and diabetes management. These factors cumulatively pose threat to lifestyle modification and negatively impact health seeking behaviours. The need to leverage community structures to improve dissemination of health information about is a critical response strategy. In Ghana most rural communities have health information centres allows dissemination information to a larger part of such communities. As part of the bigger agenda to sensitize rural communities about hypertension, our volunteers use this approach to conduct health education sessions for such communities.
